Tesla appears to be entering the parcel delivery business, with its humanoid Optimus robots unloading packages from self-driving Cybercabs (tentative name) for last-mile drop-offs. CEO Elon Musk has reportedly been exploring the idea, sparking interest in whether Tesla’s delivery venture will materialize.

According to industry sources on the 15th, Musk responded “Exactly” to an analysis posted by an X (formerly Twitter) user AJ (@alojoh), who suggested that a combined Cybercab-Optimus delivery service could emerge. AJ is known as a former financial market researcher who has since retired.

AJ stated, “During nighttime hours when passenger demand is low, 95% of Cybercabs will be parked,” adding, “This downtime could be used for Optimus to load packages and even deliver them right to doorsteps.” The user explained, “Such dual-use cases would not only improve cost competitiveness for Tesla’s ride-sharing network but also help reduce daytime traffic congestion.”

Industry analysts interpreted Musk’s response as confirmation that Tesla is seriously considering the concept. They also noted that the Cybercab’s design itself seems tailored for delivery logistics. The vehicle features an unusually large trunk space relative to its body—capable of holding two carry-on and two checked luggage items simultaneously by airline standards.

An industry insider said, “Given Elon Musk’s reaction and the Cybercab’s design, Tesla likely had delivery services in mind from the start.” They added, “With Optimus gearing up for mass production, Tesla has the resources needed to launch this business.”

Tesla plans to roll out a driverless ride-hailing service using Cybercabs in Austin, Texas, as early as next month. The Cybercab operates on Tesla’s Full Self-Driving (FSD) software and is designed as a two-door vehicle without a steering wheel or pedals.
