Seojin Cam, a South Korean automotive parts specialist known for its transmissions, has inaugurated its first manufacturing facility in Nuevo León, Mexico, a burgeoning hub for electric vehicle (EV) production in North America. The company aims to leverage this new plant not only to strengthen its existing relationships with Hyundai and Kia but also to expand its customer base to include global brands like Tesla, which are establishing a manufacturing presence in the region.
On April 14th, Seojin Cam held a grand opening ceremony for its Phase 1 EV component plant in Escobedo, Nuevo León. The event was attended by key figures including Nuevo León’s Secretary of Economy, Emanuel Loo; Seco Global’s CEO and Seojin Executive Director, Bae Gi-wook; Seojin Mexico’s President, Kang Byeong-hyeok; and Escobedo’s Mayor, Andres Mijes.
Seojin Cam invested approximately 160 million in the initial phase of the plant, which will focus on producing critical components for electric vehicle motors. The plant is expected to create over 300 jobs in the area. The company plans to invest an additional 140 million by 2028 to complete Phase 2 of the project.
This expansion into Mexico is seen as a strategic move by Seojin Cam to enhance its competitiveness in the global EV market and to broaden its collaborations beyond existing clients like Hyundai and Kia, targeting major North American automakers.
Industry analysts suggest that this plant could position Seojin Cam to potentially supply electric vehicle powertrains to Tesla in the future. Tesla has plans to build an EV manufacturing facility near Monterrey, the capital of Nuevo León, with a $5 billion investment. However, these plans have been temporarily put on hold due to the current U.S. administration’s strict tariff policies.
Seojin Cam, a subsidiary of Seco Group, was established in 1999 and specializes in manufacturing automotive engine components. In addition to domestic clients such as Hyundai, Kia, and SsangYong, Seojin Cam also supplies parts to international companies including General Motors (GM) and Fiat Chrysler Automobiles (FCA).
Secretary Emanuel Loo stated, “Seojin’s investment is not just about creating jobs; it’s about accelerating the transition to electric vehicles and building a sustainable industrial ecosystem.“
I tried to use language and phrasing that would be common in an American business news article. I also made sure to include the conversions of Korean currency into US Dollars. Let me know if you would like me to make any changes!
