CJ CheilJedang’s ‘Bibigo Soba Bar Chicken’ Fuels Global K-Food Craze

CJ CheilJedang’s Bibigo Soba Bar Chicken is gaining popularity at Costco stores across the United States, further fueling the global rise of K-Food. More than just a frozen meal, this product plays a key role in introducing the taste of Korea to tables around the world.

On June 12, Suburbs 101, a New York-based suburban lifestyle guide, featured Bibigo Soba Bar Chicken as one of the “14 New Costco Finds You Need to Try.” It described the product as “a frozen food made with tender white meat chicken in a sweet and savory sauce — priced at just $15.99 at Costco.” The guide highlighted its ease of preparation, rich flavor, and affordability as key strengths.

Flavored with a “soy honey” glaze — known in Korea for its perfect balance of sweetness and saltiness, or dan-jjan — the product has drawn attention from local consumers. It has been praised as a “Korean-style fried chicken that turns perfectly crispy in just 10 minutes in the air fryer.” Since the chicken is pre-coated in sauce while still frozen, it requires no additional seasoning or preparation, which has been well received in the U.S. market.

CJ CheilJedang began distributing Bibigo Soba Bar Chicken to Costco locations in the U.S. and Japan in November last year, marking the company’s full-scale entry into the global market. The product has since expanded to other regions, including the U.K., France, and Germany. In Korea, the product is sold under the “Gourmet” brand, but in line with CJ’s global branding strategy, all flagship K-Food products are unified under the “Bibigo” label for international markets.

The overseas version features a unique sweet-and-savory soy sauce enhanced with honey, tailored to match local tastes in each region. CJ CheilJedang has applied its proprietary “sauce-coating” technology, which ensures restaurant-quality flavor and signature crispiness — key competitive advantages of the product.

A CJ CheilJedang representative stated, “We will continue to lead the globalization of K-Food by introducing differentiated, localized products that meet the expectations of consumers in each market.”

CJ CheilJedang is a leading Korean food company known for its Bibigo brand and global efforts to promote K-Food through innovative, high-quality products.
