CJ ENM is extending its “K-Drama Road” to the UK, building on its partnership with FOX’s OTT platform, Tubi TV, following success in the US. Celebrating its 30th anniversary this year, CJ ENM aims to open a new chapter in the global market as a visionary of K-content, with a determination to captivate the world through innovative content.
According to Tubi on the 31st, the company signed an expanded partnership agreement with CJ ENM. The key focus of this agreement is to broaden their collaboration from the US to the UK. Previously, in 2022, CJ ENM collaborated with Tubi to introduce K-dramas such as Reply 1994, Task Force 38, and Hogu’s Love to the US market.
Tubi is an ad-supported free streaming service platform acquired by FOX in 2020. Last July, it expanded its services from the US to the UK and now boasts a total of 97 million monthly active users (MAU).
Through Tubi’s UK OTT platform, CJ ENM will showcase K-dramas including Strangers from Hell, Because This Is My First Life, Search: WWW, The Crowned Clown, and Bride of Habaek. Additionally, the reality dating show Transit Love will be included, with a total of 20 titles set to be released sequentially.
The release of these dramas on Tubi in the UK is seen as part of CJ ENM’s efforts to realize its “K-content visionary” vision, which was unveiled in February to mark its 30th anniversary. At the time, CEO Yoon Sang-hyun stated, “Over the past 30 years, CJ ENM has continuously broken its own limits and embraced new challenges, laying the foundation for South Korea’s cultural industry by expanding the diversity of content and genres. We will open a new chapter as a ‘K-content visionary’ that creates transformative content for people worldwide.”
CJ ENM remarked, “We have expanded our partnership with Tubi to provide a variety of K-content to UK viewers,” adding, “By enhancing our drama lineup, we aim to strengthen our position as a leading company in K-dramas in the UK.” As of the end of last year, CJ ENM dramas dominated the “Top 10” list of the best K-dramas of 2024, as announced by the local pop culture magazine NME. Queen of Tears took first place, followed by Lovely Runner in second, Marry My Husband in third, and Pyramid Game in sixth.
